The recent heavy and persistent rains have caused many sewers, basement floor drains and sump pumps to overflow, especially here in Livonia. Most of our policy holders have some coverage for the cost to evacuate the water and the damage left behind. For those who find themselves without the necessary coverage there is a glimmer of hope: Public Act 170 of 1964 amended by Public Act 222 of 2001. If it can be shown that your municipality knew or should have know of defects in the sewage disposal system and failed to act in a reasonable time frame, you may be entitled to recovery from them.
